The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) will further increase its University Admission Scholarships in 2024-25, benefiting JUPAS students who are admitted to CUHK with outstanding results in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination. The estimated value of the scholarships will rise to HK$35.9 million, representing an increase of about 87% compared to last year. The disbursement of certain scholarships will transition from annual renewals to one-off allowances, giving students and their families more flexibility in their arrangements and planning.

Starting from the 2024-25 academic year, new students admitted through JUPAS with Level 5** in seven or more subjects will be offered a one-off study allowance and exchange scholarship of HK$410,000, along with a full four-year tuition waiver. The maximum total value of the scholarship can be over HK$570,000, an increase of over HK$170,000 (approximately 44.6%) compared to last year. Adding with scholarships offered by colleges and faculties, the maximum scholarship value will be over HK$1 million.

Students with Level 5** in seven or more subjects who enrol in the six-year medical programme will be offered a full tuition waiver for two additional years. The maximum total value of the scholarship can be over HK$660,000, up on last year by over HK$100,000 (approximately 18.3%). Other new students’ scholarships will increase correspondingly based on the number of subjects in which they attain Level 5**. (See appendix for details.)

Professor Andy Wong, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at CUHK, said, “Economic recovery after the pandemic has not been as ideal as expected. Many families have seen a significant drop in their income, and students are facing pressures of life and study. By significantly enhancing the scholarships, the University hopes that students will be able to focus on their studies without worrying. Starting from the next academic year, certain scholarships will be disbursed as one-off allowances. The allowances can be an entrepreneurship fund during study or a way of financing overseas learning, enabling more flexible educational pathways. In addition, the University, colleges and faculties also provide a number of scholarships to encourage outstanding students. Including the University Admission Scholarships, students can receive scholarships of HK$1 million or more.”

Furthermore, University also provides comprehensive support to students in need through various financial aid and assistance programmes, including the Perseverance Bursary and the Non-local Experiential Learning Bursary, ensuring that all eligible students can receive a high-quality education at CUHK.
