The “Times Higher Education (THE) Global Sustainable Development Congress” regional co-hosted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has recently concluded successfully. The four-day conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand, gathering around 3,000 global thought leaders and innovators in sustainability to discuss solutions to the global sustainability emergency.

A large delegation representing CUHK comprised members of the University management and esteemed professors specialising in sustainable development research and projects attended the event to exchange views with global experts. The Provost Professor Alan Chan shared his insights on different topics at the Leaders’ Summit, including the ways to collectively pursue global challenges and the trends in the sustainability. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sham Mai-har and Professor Edward Ng Yan-yung of the School of Architecture spoke on how universities can truly up-scale impact. Choh-Ming Li Professor of Geography and Resource Management Professor Kwan Mei-po gave a keynote speech on how CUHK leads the way in social responsibility and sustainable development.

The delegation engaged in academic exchanges with participants from around the world on various issues related to sustainability at several panel discussions, including sharing insights on implementing sustainability at the educational level and on campus. Student ambassadors of the CUHK Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change shared their experience of promoting sustainability, bringing students’ perspectives on the issue to the international stage.
