CUHK holds 92nd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held its 92nd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees today (9 November). Professor John Y. Chai, Chairman of the CUHK Council, presided at the Congregation, while Acting Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Alan K.L. Chan delivered an address. The day’s celebrations began with a formal flag-raising ceremony where the national flag of the People’s Republic of China, the flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the CUHK flag were raised to a rendition of the national anthem.

CUHK confers honorary doctorates on three distinguished people

Three distinguished people were awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to economic development, scientific and educational progress in Hong Kong and around the world (in alphabetical order of family name): Dr Norman Chan Tak-lam, Dr Norman Leung Nai-pang and Professor Helga Nowotny. Professor Nowotny was unable to attend the Congregation. The University conferred the degree on her in absentia.

Doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees for 2023 awarded

A total of 620 doctoral degrees, 7,845 master’s degrees and 5,133 bachelor’s degrees were conferred at the Congregation. Among the latter were 649 Bachelors of Arts, 1,175 Bachelors of Business Administration, 1 Bachelor of Business Administration and of Science, 48 Bachelors of Arts and of Education, 49 Bachelors of Education, 627 Bachelors of Engineering, 76 Bachelors of Laws, 25 Bachelors of Chinese Medicine, 220 Bachelors of Medicine and of Surgery, 234 Bachelors of Nursing, 48 Bachelors of Pharmacy, 1,299 Bachelors of Science, and 633 Bachelors of Social Science.
