The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has been awarded the prestigious Huawei 2022 ICT talent ecosystem outstanding contribution award (HK & Macau) in recognition of the University’s support of local innovation and technology (I&T) talent ecosystem development.

The Huawei Hong Kong and Macau Partner Summit 2023 was successfully held on 12 April 2023. The Huawei Hong Kong and Macau I&T Talent Development Programme (ITTDP) was launched at the Summit to advocate cooperation between enterprises and academia, and enhance the competitiveness of talents in Hong Kong and Macao from the perspectives of establishing an I&T talent alliance, strengthening talent training, organising talent activities and promoting talent cooperation.

Huawei presented the “2022 ICT Talent Ecosystem Outstanding Contribution Award (Hong Kong and Macau)” to CUHK which aims to thank and appreciate the partners from the education industry for their contribution and support to the development of  I&T talent ecosystem, encourage I&T technology-driven and talent integration, empower the development of the education industry, and form an open education ecosystem that spans disciplines and sectors.

Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, gave an online speech at the Summit detailing CUHK’s experience and achievements in the local innovation and technology talent ecosystem. He expressed gratitude towards Huawei for its continual dedication and efforts in the cultivation of innovation and technology talents. He said, “In the future, as one of Huawei’s education partners, CUHK will continue to promote school-enterprise cooperation and work with Huawei and other technology enterprises to build an I&T talent pool.”

Mr Jerry Ji, Managing Director of Hong Kong and Macau Enterprise Business Group, Huawei, gave a speech at the conference indicating how Huawei will work with partners to empower the development of the digital economy in Hong Kong and Macau in 2023. He said, “The Huawei Asia Pacific Talent Issues Framework, or PIPES, addresses the current imbalance in digital talent in Asia-Pacific, helping to cultivate local I&T talents by providing a Platform, Innovation, Professionalism, Experience and Skills. We have announced the ITTDP, a localised talent development framework, generated a series of activities in the fields of education, industry and public talent to promote the development of I&T talent, building a talent information communication alliance, carrying out training and education activities, holding knowledge empowerment activities and building innovative project cooperation bridges.”

Professor Helen Meng Mei-ling, CUHK’s Patrick Huen Wing Ming Professor of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, was invited to be the officiating guest and discussed a variety of topics with other guests at the summit’s Roundtable Forum, including how various groups can work together to cultivate talents and promote academic research, and how companies can train graduates to join the I&T industry.
