CUHK ranks 45th in 2023 THE World University Rankings and achieves best result ever
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has been placed 45th in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. CUHK’s ranking has risen for three consecutive years, and this is the seventh consecutive year that it has been ranked among the world’s top 100, as well as its strongest performance since it was first listed in 2010. This impressive result demonstrates CUHK’s continued influence and leading position in the global higher education community.
CUHK achieved an overall score of 73.2 and was ranked among the world’s top 100 in teaching, research, citations and international outlook. Among the metrics used to compile the rankings, CUHK attained the highest possible score in “publications per member of staff” and “research income to academic staff”; scored 99.9 in “institutional income to academic staff” and “proportion of international academic staff”; and also showed significant improvement in “teaching reputation” and “research reputation” compared to last year.
CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan said, “The Times Higher Education 2023 World University Rankings result is a testament of the outstanding talent, and extraordinary dedication and vision of the entire CUHK community. Research and innovation, global engagement, and development and recruitment are all core objectives of the CUHK 2021-2025 Strategic Plan, and are anchored by our mission to achieve excellence with purpose and responsibility. This result speaks volumes about our commitment to excellence, and I am truly inspired by and grateful to our community’s dedication to the pursuit of excellence in everything that we do. With Hong Kong’s evolution and transition to a knowledge-based economy and integration with the nation’s development, our world-class universities are primed to make vital contributions to the city’s endeavours as a super connector between China and the world. This globally recognised academic standing of CUHK is indeed a strong vote of confidence in the university’s capacity to contribute to these important tasks”.
The 2023 THE World University Rankings include 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions.
