CUHK holds 2021 Positive Workplace Service Awards Presentation Ceremony to build a positive workplace culture on campus
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) recently held the Positive Workplace Service Awards (PWS Awards) Presentation Ceremony to show appreciation and affirmation to colleagues for promoting a positive work culture.
Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK said, “The University has experienced many challenges over the past two years. The highly unpredictable environment and circumstances required our expeditious and innovative responses, and I fully appreciate the pressure that our colleagues at all levels were facing. I am truly grateful that many of our colleagues have continued to work in unity and demonstrate exemplary professionalism in facing difficulties together. Each nominated and awarded colleague and team has demonstrated their positive working attitude to promote diversity and inclusion in their workplace, and contribute to the continuous and sustainable growth of the University.”
The PWS Awards were launched in 2017 to identify and recognise colleagues and teams at all levels from different teaching, professional and administrative units, who demonstrated their positive spirit in the workplace and contributed to the establishment of a positive work culture and atmosphere. The awards are divided into the PWS (Individual) Award, the PWS (Team) Award, Positive Leadership Award and Panel’s Appreciation Award.
The User Support Services team of the Information Technology Services Centre was one of the recipients of the PWS (Team) Award. Mrs. Wendy Cheung, head of the team said, “During the pandemic, some of the work required a few of us to return to the office. I was really moved that everyone volunteered, each believing that they were better suited to return than others who lived far away or who had to care for their children or the elderly at home. It is very touching that our team is eager to do this because we care so much about one another.”
Mrs. Alice Law, College Secretary of Lee Woo Sing College and one of the recipients of the Positive Leadership Award and Individual Award, said, “I think people are our most valuable resource. Being a supervisor, I endeavor to help every colleague realise their full potential. Sometimes, I will write personal letters to share some encouraging things with my colleagues. Words can convey the nuances of my feelings and my expectations for colleagues. I can also describe the challenges that I face or explain the way I think. That’s why I prefer using these personal letters to bring the team closer together and foster a cordial atmosphere.” Ms. Choi Lai Ngor of Lee Woo Sing College and the College Office Team under Alice’s leadership also received two Panel’s Appreciation Awards this year.
CUHK highly appreciates and recognises all staff participating the award, for their compassion and care for their fellow co-workers, as well as their willingness to serve, genuinely exemplify CUHK’s human-centric spirit, making CUHK an ideal positive workplace.
