MBA Sample Class: Central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and the future of money

Central banks around the world have been working intensively in the last few years on the viability of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs). While a few countries have launched it or reached the pilot stage, most are still in research and exploratory stage, as the risks and implications of CBDCs are not yet fully understood. In this Sample Class, Prof. Seen-Meng Chew will provide an overview of the developments so far, and discuss the implications of CBDCs on the current monetary system, covering briefly the following:

• The current developments of CBDCs in key countries
• The benefits and risks of CBDCs
• The implications of CBDCs on the monetary system
• The outlook of money and payments
