The Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has approved the appointment of Mr. Eric S.P. Ng, currently Registrar and Secretary of the University, as Vice-President (Administration) for a period of three years from 1 April 2017 concurrent with his appointment as University Secretary.  Mr. Ng will be released from the post of Registrar with effect from the same date.  The University will start the recruitment of a new Registrar immediately.

Vice-President (Administration) is a new position created to alleviate the workload of an existing Pro-Vice-Chancellor/Vice-President.  The new position, to be taken up by a full-time professional administrator, will focus on the professional administrative services, including financial and human resource management, communication, public relations and internal audit, as well as the Registry and University Secretariat.

Mr. Eric Ng remarked, ‘I am honoured and humbled to be appointed as the Vice-President (Administration) of the University, and wish to express my gratitude to the Council for entrusting me to this position. I believe the University should be led predominantly by academics because its core functions are teaching, research and knowledge transfer.  As an administrator, my role is to coordinate the University’s administrative services to ensure delivery of first-class and professional support to our academic colleagues so that they can focus on the core functions to help the University scale new heights in academic achievements.’

Mr. Eric Ng joined CUHK in 2007, became Registrar in 2008 and took up his current position as Registrar and Secretary in 2011.  Mr. Ng is an experienced administrator who has served in various capacities at universities in the UK and Hong Kong for over 27 years. Mr. Ng has been a member of the Association of University Administrators in the UK, and has also undertaken professional and leadership development for university managers at the University of Oxford and Harvard University. Mr. Eric Ng has degrees in Mathematics, Philosophy and Theology from the University of Dundee and University of London.
